The main event between Heavyweight Champion, Junior Dos Santos and challenger, Alistair Overeem has been finalized for UFC 146 Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas. Also added to the card is a number one contender fight between Frank Mir and Cain Velasquez.
Velasquez will look to rebound from his first loss to Junior Dos Santos against the perennial powerhouse that is Frank Mir. Coming off of a vicious submission victory over “Minotauro” Nogueira, Mir would like nothing more than to spoil the Mexican fighter’s plans and earn yet another chance to regain the belt he once owned.
This fight is very interesting because Mir is always improving his striking, but one would imagine Velasquez will look to keep this fight standing where he has a speed advantage, therefore avoiding the area Mir has shown to be most dangerous.
As if that wasn’t enough beef for one event, Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva will make his return to the octagon against Roy “Big Country” Nelson.
Rounding out the plethora of heavyweight action at UFC 146 is Shane Del Rosario making his UFC debut against Gabriel Gonzaga, who was victorious in his return to the octagon at the UFC’s recent trip to Brazil.
Overall, UFC 146 is now one of the most stacked cards in recent memory and will undoubtedly produce some extremely exciting finishes with few fights going the distance.
