Today Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal went on Ariel Helwani’s “MMA Hour” and spoke about his recent positive test for the anabolic steroid Drostanolone.  He claimed that a supplement he bought back in 2010 over the counter at Max Muscle in Orange County, CA caused him to fail the test.

The product is called S-Mass Lean Gainer made by Steel Body Productions.  It’s claim to fame is that it’s “the most powerful designer anabolic ever created and is probably the least expensive on the market.”

Not exactly subtle, but nevertheless Lawal insists he had no idea that the supplement contained anything that would cause him to test positive for any PED’s.  The supplement does contain a chemical precursor to Drostanolone, and has since been banned from being sold over the counter.

Lawal did state that he used it after his title fight against Gegard Mousasi because his injured knee felt weak and unstable.  It would interesting to see if he had to test following his loss to Feijao, but it is pointless anyway.

This is yet another athlete blaming a positive test on a supplement he allegedly assumed to be clean.  It is undoubtedly a trend that will continue, rendering the already futile excuse even more meaningless.

With his manager Mike Kogan stating that they will not appeal the test, King Mo is likely to serve a suspension of nine months, should the Nevada State Athletic Commission not choose to extend or shorten the suspension.
