UFC Fighter Chad Mendes To Be Charged With Battery Following Bar Fight

Earlier this we month we brought you the news that former UFC Featherweight contender Chad Mendes was being sought by police regarding his role in a bar fight. The local authorities were looking for the Hanford, California native because he fled pursuit after allegedly striking another patron of the Lacey Inn Bar. Mendes was out of the state at the time reports were released, but declared his innocence a few days later.
Now, the Hanford Sentinel reports that Chad Mendesis being charged with battery for the incident:

Authorities say mixed martial arts fighter Chad Mendes has been charged with battery for his alleged involvement in a bar fight last month. The Kings County District Attorney’s Office announced today that they would seek a battery charge against Mendes, which carries with it a possible $2,000 fine and up to six months in county jail.

Mendes will have his arraignment hearing on September 19.
In his last UFC appearance, the Featherweight quickly dispatched Cody Mckenzie with body punch at UFC 148. Mendes is 3-1 in the UFC (12-1), with his only career loss coming by first round knockout to champion Jose Aldo. “Money” does not currently have a fight scheduled.

UFC 142 Aldo gana

El campeón de peso pluma del UFC, José Aldo, retuvo su título de manera enfática en su tierra natal y frente a una afición sumamente exaltada por tal acontecimiento. Su debut en una cartelera principal no podía haber sido más auspicioso. El brasileño puso fin al invicto del norteamericano Chad Mendes, quien poco pudo hacer frente a la espectacularidad del monarca de las 145lbs.

Cuando sólo faltaba un segundo para la chicharra de cierre del primer asalto, Aldo logró separar los brazos de Mendes que aferraban su cintura y conectó un poderoso rodillazo que lo llevó a la lona. Una vez allí, dos puñetazos en el rostro fueron suficientes para la oportuna intervención del referí del encuentro, Mario Yamasaki.

El delirio del público contagió al campeón que rápidamente salió disparado del octágono hacia las gradas y se dejó llevar por el éxtasis del momento. Levantado en andas por alguien del público, José exhibió con orgullo la bandera del club de sus amores y nuevo auspiciante, El Flamengo de Río de Janeiro. Aldo es el campeón del pueblo, un símbolo del esfuerzo y del trabajo duro. Un hombre que salió de la marginalidad gracias a la práctica de la Artes Marciales Mixtas.

Con este nuevo triunfo, Aldo cimenta su lugar dentro de los mejores competidores libra por libra de las Artes Marciales Mixtas. Junior ha ganado sus últimos 14 compromisos y no pierde desde el año 2005.

La clave de la victoria estuvo en la excelente defensa frente a los derribos del luchador norteamericano. Aldo es uno de los mejores en ese rubro, defendiendo el 94% de los intentos de derribo. En esta ocasión, el brasileño fue demasiado atlético y escurridizo para evadir los cinco intentos de derribo de Mendes.

La posibilidad de la hazaña su esfumó rápidamente para un Mendes que buscaba arrebatarle el título al campeón en su patio trasero. En la entrevista post combate, el retador resaltó las virtudes de su oponente:

¨José es un gran campeón. Yo quería mantener la presión y acortar la distancia para poder aferrarme a él. Tiene una gran defensa frente a los derribos y unos desplazamientos muy buenos. Viendo los videos de sus combates me di cuenta que sería difícil derribarlo. Fue mejor que yo esta noche.¨ señaló un Mendes sumamente humilde en la derrota.

Aldo parece no sentir la responsabilidad de compartir el podio con Anderson Silva o Junior Dos Santos. El campeón llevará la antorcha y correrá la posta cuando éstos ilustres guerreros ya no nos deleiten con sus habilidades dentro de el octágono. Sencillamente un fuera de serie

Frankie Edgar beat Gray Maynard in the epic ending to their trilogy. After being hurt early on—again—Edgar came back and rallied to finish Maynard. Edgar is now set to face Benson Henderson in Japan at UFC 144 in what will be an awesome main event for Japan. Since then Cruz has been on a tear and has beaten fighters with his untouchable boxing and great wrestling skills.

Jose Aldo Vs. Chad Mendes Official For UFC 142 In Brazil

After successfully defending the UFC Featherweight title last month at UFC 136, Jose Aldo has his next challenger set as the UFC announced today that Aldo will face undefeated Chad Mendes at UFC 142 in Brazil.

UFC President Dana White spoke about the fight to FoxSports.com:

“Pound-for-pound superstar Jose Aldo will return home to fight in Brazil for the first time since 2007 when he defends his UFC featherweight title against unbeaten powerhouse Chad Mendes. Aldo hasn’t lost in over five years, but Mendes has yet to lose in MMA, and after clearing out all the contenders put in his way, he believes he has what it takes to beat the champion.”
