Invicta FC 4: Dodging PPV Troubles Instead of Punches

Posted by Scott Levesque

InvictaFCOn Saturday, January 5th Invicta held its fourth event in Kansas City, Kansas. This marks the first event in the promotion’s short history, in which a fight card would be available for purchase on pay-per-view. Prior to Saturday’s fight card, all of Invicta’s shows were available for free by live online streaming. Unfortunately for the promotion, their pay-per-view experiment lasted about as long as a Ronda Rousey fight.

A promoter’s worst nightmare, besides a no-show fighter, is dead air time and on Saturday night that’s exactly what happened. During the online pay-per-view streaming, found on Ustream, there were considerable difficulties in viewing the Invicta FC 4 event after purchase. This prompted Invicta President Shannon Knapp to post this on Twitter.

@InvictaFights we are pulling the pay wall down and refunding all payments made due to difficulty in purchasing event. Enjoy the show!

Invicta has been gaining considerable momentum. The promotion is growing in popularity with each fight card – mainly due to the media exposure it received through the 2012 year. Fight cards have delivered exciting and compelling matches and their entertainment value, right now, is off the charts.

However, ask any entrepreneur selling a public service: momentum can be good or bad.

Like any thirteen year old junior high girl, the public’s attitude can change at any moment. For all of Invicta’s recent success, if they don’t fix their live streaming issues, they could end up fighting for their credibility instead of pay-per-view providers.

In the end, I don’t believe the current PPV issue will derail Invicta’s momentum. If this dilemma has shown me anything, in regards to the Invicta brand and management, it’s that they know their audience.

Knapp made a tough business decision by providing a full refund to those who paid for the event via Ustream PPV. Yet Knapp didn’t stop there. She is also providing the entire event, for free, on the Invicta FC website.

If Knapp can get the online PPV streaming issues fixed – so it works consistently and reliably – then there’s no telling how far the promotion can go moving forward.

@ANDREACALLEcorp

Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp- an important message for the female fighters in MMA.

*** Attention Female Athletes ***

It has come to my attention AGAIN that there are still issues with Fight Managers out there that are saying that the only way female athletes will fight for Invicta FC is if the athlete signs with them and that these Fight Managers have the “in with Invicta FC” or they can have an at
hlete blackballed from our promotion.

YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND…THIS IS ABSOLUTELY FALSE!!!

Please note…just because a Fight Manager has a lot of female athletes signed with Invicta FC doesn’t make them the “it guy” or the best Fight Manager, or the only Manager we prefer to deal with.

I will REPEAT this LOUDLY and CLEARLY so hopefully all female athletes, pro, and especially amateur female athletes, understand Invicta FC plays NO favorites to any Managers or Management Company and we NEVER will!

Female athletes are signed on their ability alone! If you want a contract with Invicta FC keep winning, fighting hard and you will get that contract!

The Manager works for you! It is your talent and ability alone that will get you a contract with Invicta FC. If you feel that you are being bullied or a Manager is making any of these claims in trying to sign you to their Management Company contracts please notify me personally.

I WILL NOT TOLERATE FEMALE ATHLETES BEING BULLIED, OR MANAGERS MISREPRESENTING THEMSELVES, OR THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH INVICTA FC TO SIGN FEMALE ATHLETES TO THEIR MANAGEMENT CONTRACTS.

Please help to pass this information along so hopefully it will reach all the female athletes.

(Article) Note of Appreciation

I am a Dreamer, and a very high dreamer. My dreams are so high that people laugh when they hear me say what I WILL accomplish. And I say accomplish because when I see that my dreams can become reality, I Act,  and Commit until I succeed. My mother, my biggest supporter, friend, partner in business and in life, always says that every time I come up with any idea she gets nervous, because she knows I’ll do what ever is necessary to make it a reality. I am a very stubborn person, and many people see that as a flaw. I try to use it in my advantage, it helps me keep committed to what I love and start.

Two years ago, EL Octagono team gave me the opportunity to be part of this incredible idea. And we started together a beautiful and amazing journey. I took El Octagono as a personal challenge, goal and business. I want to make El Octagono the main Spanish MMA show and source for anything mma related… And slowly but surly we are growing as a company, and better yet as a family. I would like to thank Camilo Ortiz and Randall Villafanez, for the opportunity and support on all my ideas and projects I get involved with. And of course I can’t forget the beautiful wives Sarah and Elizabeth, they have believe in us, being patient and supporting their husbands so they can be part of my dream. Love you guys

But, El Octagono wouldn’t be what it is without the fighters, that have become our friends during time. Thanks to the fighters, their time, work, dedication, and passion for what they do, we are able to bring our listeners all the updates, interviews and videos of what goes on in their lives. To managers, and gyms for being part of the fighters lives and for helping us when we need you.

To all the promotions, UFC, Bellator, Strikeforce, CFA, Fighttime, Invicta, Gforce, that support our work and help us with everything we need. Thank you so much!!! I would like to thank Frank Morejon CEO of MMA2TheMax for everything he does for the south florida mma community, for all the help he has given el Octagono and me.

In the journey I started a couple of years ago, I have met amazing people, some have become my friends, others colleges, other just acquaintance, but each person, I have met has planted a seed in my heart, and has help me be who I am today. I like to thank the team MJA Fashion for being there for me and with me. Their actions have spoken so highly of them that I don’t have words to thank them. Photographers, editors, magazines, sites, co-workers, models, designers, makeup artist, artist, actors, productions crews, etc, that I have worked with for making my experience so amazing.

I wouldn’t change my life for no body.  I have more than what anyone imagines. I have the joy of having the best shield in life and the best friend anyone can have Jesus Christ… He has been by my side in the worst moments of my life but has also given me more than what I ever dreamed. And my ultimate goal, is to be able to use everything I am, posses and know in His work. I do want to make this a better place. I want to be remember for the difference I made in this world, and “We Want You to Help”  to make a difference with us.

Nothing that I have dreamed, achieved and projects I am working on, would be possible with out my, supporters, fans, followers, and friends. You guys make such a big part of anything I do, probably more than what you can imagine, and for all of you I only have words of gratitude, and appreciation.

And of course my backbone, my daily motivation and my life (MOM, SISTER and BROTHER) you guys are the best thing any person in this world could ask for. I have the best family anyone can imagine, and I praise the Lord for the health we all have, for being able to be so united and supporters of each other. THANK YOU

2012 has been an amazing year for me. My new journey  into Fitness, and health, has challenge and change my life for ever. I like to lead by example, and for the people that saw my process to compete, notice it. I want to be a pro fitness competitor and I have to thank Dennis Sheppard from New Body Architects for all the help and support in achieving my goals on the fitness side. They have been an important part of my performance and achievements of my goals in fitness…

2012 is ending and it has left me with great achievements, new goals, new projects, new friends, and with a positive attitude towards life, and everything that surrounds me. I want to thank each of you again for being part of my life, and want to encourage you to be a better you every day. To thank God and everyone that is there to help you, supports you and believes in you.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL! and always remember to smile, may brighten someone’s day :)

How to take your fitness to the next level

Many years ago before I decided to get involved in body building, I needed to make some important decisions on how I was going to make it all happen. I needed to set some goals, and figure out a few things. This quote always comes to mind when it is time to set goals “a goal without a plan is a WISH” -Herm Edwards. As one of the top fitness trainers in Florida and after receiving numerous rewards in my bodybuilding career, I still find myself setting new goals. I have actually been able to accomplish more then I ever imagined, just by following a few simple rules listed below. If you would have asked me 5 years ago if I thought I would own two fitness studios or become a State Champion natural body builder, I would have said no.

When it comes to taking your fitness to the next level, follow these simple rules:

Rule #1: Find Someone You Admire-  Look for someone who has similar attributes and characteristics as you, whether they be from a magazine, tv show, your trainer, or close friend.  Use whoever you choose and use them as your motivation to drive you to your fitness goals.

Rule #2: Set Realistic Fitness Goals –  Starting with smaller “short- term” fitness goals will allow you to experience the reward of achieving your goal sooner than later, leaving you wanting to accomplish more and more.  For example, for someone who is sedentary and wants to become fit/ healthy, setting a goal to workout 3 days a week every week is a perfect starting point.  For someone who wants to lose 20 pounds, setting a goal to lose 4-5 pounds in a month will allow them to see that those 20 pounds is attainable.

Rule #3:  Overcome Obstacles –  First and foremost, anything worth having in life doesn’t come easy, it takes hard work and dedication.  Obstacles are a part of life, and are a big reason why individuals give up on their fitness goals prematurely.  When working towards your goal keep a positive mindset, that no matter what you will succeed, no matter what set backs you encounter you will overcome them and not allow yourself to give up.

Rule #4:  Become A Role Model-  Accomplishing your goals is a huge feat, and a reason to be proud of yourself.  At this point in time others will notice, and start asking you how you did it.  This is when you know you’ve reached role model status.  People are asking you how you reached your goal, because they want to know how to look like you.  And there is nothing more rewarding than knowing you are a role model, and are now the motivation used by others so that they can achieve their fitness goals. If you are a parent, you already are a role model and it is your responsibility to assume the role. (as a good one) .

Having positive role models and coaches play a huge part and should always be part of your game plan.

Morning Report: Dana White to undergo surgery after UFC 153; Jon Jones warming on Chael Sonnen fight

By

Last May, for the first time in 11 years, UFC President Dana White was nowhere to be found during a UFC event. As his two headliners, Chan Sung Jung and Dustin Poirier, engaged in what many considered to be the ‘Fight of the Year,’ White was back home, watching UFC on FUEL 3 on television due to a rare inner ear condition called Meniere’s disease, which cripples a person’s hearing and balance centers, while also causing severe vertigo and a feeling of heavy pressure inside the ear.

Needless to say, between an endless flight schedule and supremely high stress level, White’s lifestyle isn’t exactly conducive to being sick. So it’s not surprising that White has lobbying for corrective surgery for the better part of the last five months.

Doctors were initially reluctant to perform such major surgery on someone so young. However, that no longer seems to be the case.

“Saw the [doctor] today about my Meniere’s and I’m getn [sic] the surgery when I get home from Brazil!!!!!” White tweeted late Thursday night.

According to WedMD, surgery for Meniere’s disease is highly invasive and can result in permanent damage to an individual’s hearing. During the procedure, doctor’s essentially cut the nerve inside one’s ear that controls hearing and balance. White has talked about the surgery in the past, and how it requires a minimum of three weeks of intensive rehab to relearn basic motor functions, such as walking.

None of this sounds pleasant at all, so we wish Dana good luck and good health in advance of next week.

Fighting For Brazil!!! Chris Camozzi

Fighting For Brazil

Hey Guys,

Several weeks ago, when my manager, Jason Genet, called me with the fight offer for 153, I had a rush of thoughts about how far and fast my career had come. I was grateful for the opportunity and told my manager how I felt. He said something that stuck with me: “The best thing to do with gratitude, is to pass it along.” This is great advice, so we decided right then to do just that.

After doing some research (actually the Ingrained Media team did a lot of the research) we decided to do three things: I will donate a portion of my fight purse to Instituto Reacao in Rio de Janeiro. We will auction off my fight-worn gloves and shorts; 100% of the proceeds will go to Instituto Reacao. And since the fight is so far from my friends and family we are looking into using some of my tickets to give some young people in Brazil an opportunity to attend the event as my guests.

This is a description of the Instituto Reacao:

Instituto Reacao, founded by Judo Olympian Flavio Canto in 2003, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the care and development of approximately one thousand children and young people ages four to twenty-five in Rio de Janeiro. Its philosophy is based on teachings of Judo, and enabled through the power of sport as a tool for human development. The organization aims to inspire in children and adolescents development in the cognitive, productive, social and personal dimensions. To do this the institute emphasizes the fundamental principles of Judo: discipline, respect and non-violence.

Without the martial arts contributions of Brazil, MMA as we know it could not exist. The Instituto Reacao provides support and guidance to young people in Rio’s slums. The martial arts born in Brazil gave the same guidance to me and to many fighters. Even though helping me was not a direct aim of the teachings, it would be wrong of me to not acknowledge and honor the debt.

(Article) Photo: UFC Octagon Girl Brittney Palmer Action Figure

By

Brittney Palmer has been featured on countless TV shows, magazines, calendars and other famous outlets. She has graced the cover of Playboy since becoming a UFC Octagon girl, but now she’s getting “immortalized” in a different way, and will be exposed to a new market and audience.

As part of their “Ultimate Collector Series 11″ set, Round 5 will be releasing a limited edition Brittney Palmer “Chase” figure which will be making its debuting on November. According to the announcement, the figure is relatively rare and won’t be available on every case, but check out a photo of it below:

Aside from both being on Playboy, her partner-in-crime for card UFC carrying duties in Arianny Celeste has also been featured by Round 5 in the past. Check out the photo her figure below:

Now a question for our readers, are these collectible “scene” figures something you would buy for around $30?

(Article) Anderson says win or lose to Bonnar, he may not return to middleweight

by Joe Rocha

After years of dominating the UFC middleweight division, champ Anderson Silva doesn’t seem to have the interest in continually proving to be the king of the 185 pounders. During a recent interview with Guilherme Cruz of Tatame Magazine, Silva started off on the topic of Chris Weidman’s denial of a title fight in 2012; then veering off into talks of vacating the title in order to take on new challenges. Superfight anyone?

“Everything has it’s time. (Weidman) will have his opportunity to fight for the belt. Maybe I fight next before he gets the shot, I lose and he fights someone else. We don’t know. I can fight Bonnar, lose and say: ‘you know what, I don’t want it anymore.’ Or maybe I win and way ‘I don’t want this anymore.’ Or maybe drop to welterweight or move up to heavyweight. Anything can happen. Every UFC fighter will have their chance. You have to work and wait for your opportunity. I hope [Georges St. Pierre is] my next fight. I believe everybody wants to see that fight. I have to be careful. I’ll be heavier, slower and weaker than Bonnar. I have to believe I can KO him, but that’s tough. I hope I can do a great good fight for the fans, but that’s not easy.”

Thoughts of going to welterweight or heavyweight may seem like exaggerated claims by the champ, but it’s hard to deny the abilities of the pound for pound great in any MMA endeavor. You have to admit that a JDS vs. Silva bout would be an intriguing match-up. From the sound of it, Silva has his mind set on a St-Pierre ‘superfight’ as he continually harps on the subject.
